Thomas Lehr: Schlafende Sonne

Book Premiere

Following his highly-acclaimed 9/11 novel September. Fata Morgana and a collection of aphorisms Größenwahn passt in die kleinste Hütte. Kurze Prozesse, the much anticipated new novel by Thomas Lehr is now making its debut. Schlafende Sonne takes place on a summer’s day in 2011 – but also reflects an entire century at the same time. The documentary filmmaker Rudolf Zacharias travels to Berlin for the opening event of an exhibition of works by his former student Milena Sonntag. Milena views her exhibition not only as an evocation of artistic life balance, but also of her times. In addition to the private entanglements of three protagonists, Thomas Lehr develops an overwhelming fresco of a century in Germany, from the battlefields of the First World War to Berlin today. The view is simultaneously tragic, funny, grotesque and quite personal.
