Javier Álvarez

Born in Mexico City, Álvarez has worked in many musical genres and his electroacoustic contributions over the past decades are amongst the most inventive and surprising in Mexico. Several of his compositions incorporate elements from popular music, among them his electroacoustic Mambo àla Braque and his Metro Chabacano for string quartet. His music has received awards from ICEM, Bourges and Ars Electronica and his orchestral works have been performed by the Chicago Symphony, Orchestre Nationale de France, London Sinfonietta, Los Angeles Philharmonic, and Mexico City Philharmonic. Álvarez wrote the music for Guillermo del Toro’s horror film Cronos.
