Michael Opitz:
Wolfgang Hilbig. Eine Biographie

Book Premiere

Ten years after his death, the first major biography on Wolfgang Hilbig is now published. To this day a puzzling aura still surrounds the author, who was born in Meuselwitz near Leipzig in 1941 and moved to West Germany in 1985. With his prose and his poems Hilbig is still regarded as one of the most eloquent authors in German literature and also as one of its most mysterious outsiders. For this biography Michael Opitz has reviewed unknown archival materials, unpublished letters and diaries, and evaluated the files of the Ministry for State Security (Stasi).
