The Long Shadow of the Middle of the Century.
An Evening for Tomas Venclova

Reading and Talk

The shadow cast by the middle of the last century has preoccupied the great Lithuanian poet Tomas Venclova throughout his life: “To the same extent that history was nightmarish, literature was great. The only realities in this unreal time were the murdered writers.” Venclova talks to Ellen Hinsey and Durs Grünbein about the consolation of poetry in dark times, the misery of exile and his contribution to the current issue of Sinn und Form.
