The graphic artist and sculptress Käthe Kollwitz (1867-1945) is considered to be the most famous German female artist, with an œvre that enjoys worldwide renown. Kollwitz lives on as namesake of the prize that has been awarded annually by the Akademie der Künste since 1960.

The Akademie is celebrating the 60th anniversary of the prize online, with a presentation of a wide-ranging collection of archival material, including previously unpublished texts and images and a small selection of audio recordings relating to all the prize winners from 1960 to 2020.
