The painter and graphic artist Hans Vent was sensitized to the processes of painting as a child by his father, the painter Rudolf Vent. During his studies at the Kunsthochschule Berlin-Weißensee, he also received vital impulses from Toni Mau, Kurt Robbel, Bert Heller and Gabriele Mucchi. The central motif of his paintings and drawings is the human figure, arranged individually or in groups to form poetic images of life. “This is not a plan,” Vent said in 1980, “rather a result, or a recognition, that in the depiction of the human in the broadest sense I found the only formulations of painting possible for me.” In his work, as in life, he consistently represented critical counter-positions to changing political systems.
