Residency

During their residency, Maithu Bùi will focus on the use of AI/ML, nanotechnology, bioengineered organisms and robots, as well as the role of marginalized communities [in the clearance of landmines and explosive remnants of war (ERW) and] the resulting impact on the environment.

On Demining Technologies and never-ending Wars. Operation BIOLUMsweep (2023) – research installation – explores demining processes and the exploitation of marginalized living beings and technologies in the removal of mines and explosive remnants of war and their environmental impact. Clearing explosives after wars is difficult and costly, affecting generations through traumatic experiences, chemical exposure, or physical injury. In dystopian present and future scenarios, I critically examine the use of AI/ML, bioengineered bioluminescent organisms, robots, and marginalizing groups involved in the detection and transformation of explosives.
