On the Duty and the Power of Architecture
The series of lectures by the Architecture Section starts on
26 February with Víctor López Cotelo
Event held at Pariser Platz

The Architecture Section of the Akademie is inviting guests to a five-part series of lectures, and giving its international members the opportunity to showcase their current work to the Berlin public. Bearing the title 'On the Duty and the Power of Architecture', the lectures will present the working practices and conditions of large architectural studios in Europe, and compare them. Whilst the title calls to mind the singular social responsibility borne by those shaping the constructed space. To launch the lecture series on 26 February 2018, the Spanish architect Víctor López Cotelo will be presenting his buildings. He is followed by Eduardo Souto de Moura, Porto (26 April); Patrik Schumacher, London (22 May); Anne Lacaton, Paris (21 November) and Kees Christiaanse, Zurich/Rotterdam (4 December).

Honoured with the architectural prize 'Arquitectura Española 2015' for his painstaking restructuring and extending of the Faculty of Architecture at the University of Granada, Víctor López Cotelo offers insights into his creative work in Madrid and Spain. He served as professor at the Technical University of Munich from 1995 to 2012. The 2011 laureate of the Pritzker prize, Eduardo Souto de Moura, has constructed celebrated ensembles of domestic dwellings, office buildings, museums and a football stadium in northern Portugal. With great sensitivity, he embeds them into the landscape. Wilfried Wang, Deputy Director of the Architecture Section, will be hosting the events.
