European Alliance of Academies

Closing Event

The European Union needs cultural cohesion and transnational solidarity more than ever. Therefore, the Akademie der Künste is initiating an alliance of European academies that is committed to the freedom of art and reacts in solidarity to political restrictions.

At the public launch, Akademie president Jeanine Meerapfel will speak and author Robert Menasse will present his vision for Europe. The evening begins with a musical performance by AoA ImproGroup with Floros Floridis and others. Matthias Krupa will moderate. During the internal conference, representatives of the participating art academies and cultural institutions will discuss the form and effect of their cooperation. Personalities from the world of arts, politics and culture, including Minister of State for Culture and the Media Prof. Monika Grütters, Bénédicte Savoy and Philipp Ther, will present their perspectives on Europe. At the end of the conference, a manifesto, jointly formulated by the members of the Alliance, will be published, outlining future courses of action.

Supported by the Federal Government Commissioner for Culture and the Media within the framework of the German EU Council Presidency.
