Nanne Meyer. Versteckte Texte

Exhibition

Every year, the Akademie der Künste, Berlin, presents the work of one of its members of the Visual Arts Section at the Kurt Tucholsky Literature Museum at Schloss Rheinsberg. This year’s exhibition focuses on drawings by Nanne Meyer. In the interplay of a wide variety of materials and moving processes, the artist initiates a broad field of associations through repetition, transformation, deviation and also combinatorics. In this artistic process, the drawing can be experienced as a constant coming into being and disappearance. The exploration of time and space as well as the relationship between language and text are part of her drawing art and are made visible in the exhibition at the Kurt Tucholsky Literature Museum.

The exhibition series in Rheinsberg began with Jim Dine in 2000 and was continued with Rolf Szymanski, Alfonso Hüppi, Karin Sander, Dorothee von Windheim, Hanns Schimansky, Dieter Appelt, Thomas Florschuetz, among others, and most recently with Richard Deacon.

Born in 1953 in Hamburg, Nanne Meyer lives and works in Berlin. She studied at the Hamburg University of Fine Arts. Her works include drawings, collages and artist’s books. Meyer has had solo exhibitions at the Städtische Galerie im Lenbachhaus in Munich, Kunsthalle Bremen, Hamburger Kunsthalle, Museum Goch, Kupferstichkabinett, Staatliche Museen zu Berlin and Max Liebermann Haus in Berlin, among others. A DAAD scholarship took her to Saint Martin’s School of Art in London (1982/83). In addition to a scholarship from the Villa Massimo in Rome (1986/87), she received the NRW Female Artist Award for Drawing (main prize) in 2013 and the Hannah Höch Prize of the State of Berlin in 2014. From 1994 to 2016, she taught as a professor of drawing and illustration at the Weissensee Academy of Art in Berlin. Recently, Meyer’s exhibition “überAll – von Punkthelligkeiten und Turbulenzmustern” (January-May 2022) was shown at the Horst-Janssen Museum in Oldenburg.
