Aleš Šteger, born in 1973 and an Academy member, is the most widely translated Slovenian author of his generation. "Archiv der toten Seelen" is the debut novel of the author, who is mostly known as a lyricist. The novel is set in Maribor during the carnival season in 2012. Maribor has just become the cultural capital of Europe, and local politicians as well as self-promoters are trying to make a profit from its status.
