On the Duty and the Power of Architecture
Lectures by members
21 November 2018: Anne Lacaton;
4 December 2018: Kees Christiaanse
Akademie der Künste, Pariser Platz

As part of its lecture series ‟On the Duty and the Power of Architecture" the Architecture Section is showcasing current works by international members of the Akademie der Künste. Following Víctor López Cotelo, Eduardo Souto de Moura and Patrik Schumacher, Anne Lacaton and Kees Christiaanse will now be presenting their structures and designs. Both architects have been Akademie members since 2016.

Anne Lacaton (Lacaton & Vassal) has worked with Jean Philippe Vassal in their architectural offices in Paris since 1985. They gained recognition through numerous buildings and studies, opening the way for a social and sustainable approach to architectural language that also shows conceptual alternatives in the debates around social housing. Matthias Sauerbruch, Director of the Architecture Section, introduces and moderates the discussion that follows.

In 1989 Kees Christiaanse founded Kees Christiaanse Architects & Planners (KCAP). His offices have been engaged around the world, with branches in Rotterdam, Shanghai and Zurich. The architect and urban planner concentrates on complex city planning situations and the control of urban processes. He has proven himself to be an expert in the revitalization of former industry and docklands – for instance in Amsterdam, Hamburg, London. Jörn Walter, Deputy Director of the Architecture Section and city planner, moderates the talk.

The series continues on 28 February 2019 with a talk between Christiane Thalgott and Arno Brandlhuber about ‟the property issue".
