Vanishing Points of Memory

Academy Dialogue

On 30 January 1933, Adolf Hitler was appointed Chancellor of the Reich. The National Socialists staged a torchlight procession through the Brandenburg Gate. Akademie President Jeanine Meerapfel talks with sociologist Natan Sznaider, who teaches in Tel Aviv, and media researcher Lea Wohl von Haselberg about the relationship between antisemitism, criticism of Israel and racism, antagonistic world views and the dangers of political rhetoric.

The basis for the discussion is Sznaiders' book Fluchtpunkte der Erinnerung, in which he anchors this debate in a larger historical and sociological framework.
