Final exhibition days POWER SPACE VIOLENCE. Planning and building under National Socialism

until 16 July 2023, Pariser Platz

The Akademie der Künste presents the exhibition “POWER SPACE VIOLENCE. Planning and building under National Socialism” until next Sunday, 16 July 2023. The exhibition shows how spatial and urban planning and architecture helped cement the racist ideology of National Socialism. It presents to the public, for the first time, the findings of the research project “Planning and Building under National Socialism. Prerequisites, Institutions, Impacts.” Using models, photos, films and other historical sources, the exhibition documents in particular the inhumane production conditions that existed in the practice of architecture under National Socialism. Admission is free.

The exhibition is accompanied by films, events and guided tours:

Until Sunday, 16 July, from 12 to 7 pm, artistic documentary and essay films as well as experimental works from the years 1961-2019 can be seen.

“Entanglements of Power”, the last event in the accompanying programme to the exhibition, takes place today, Wednesday 12 July. Using examples of public sculptures, squares and collections in Berlin and Kyiv, the discussion will explore historical narratives of propaganda, colonialism and fascism that reach into the present. With artistic interventions as well as recent research on National Socialist art policy in Ukraine, the event addresses the complex entanglements of power and their symbols.
