Festival “Time to Listen. The Ecological Crisis in Sound and Music”: Final bar at two locations
Interdisciplinary programme at the Sustainability Booth in Ottopark and open house on Hanseatenweg

To conclude its “Time to Listen” festival and as part of the “Ortstermin” Moabit Art Festival and the Month of Contemporary Music, the Akademie der Künste will a featured guest at the Moabit festival on 2 and 3 September. The Akademie building on Hanseatenweg will be open to the public at the same time, free of admission. Manos Tsangaris invites the audience to participate in discussions, performances, readings and a theatre miniature at a “Sustainability Booth” on the OTTO playground. The European Alliance of Academies is opening a “Climate Café”. In a tour through the OTTO playground and the Akademie building, Marcus Maeder explores the structure and ecological interconnections of the local auditory landscape. The premiere of the participatory speech choir action MOABITER CHÖRE by the composer and sound artist Peter Ablinger is the grand finale of the festival and connects the Akademie der Künste and the district of Moabit through a spoken-word procession led by choir leaders with megaphones. Workshop presentations and an interdisciplinary, feminist performance evening featuring voice, language, sound, water, foam and an aquarium all come together in a packed programme alongside the “Time to Listen” exhibition on Hanseatenweg.
The Akademie der Künste’s programmes are integral to its understanding of its role in providing intellectual stimulus and education on the topic of sustainability. The festival “Time to Listen. “The Ecological Crisis in Sound and Music” is part of an ongoing series of events devoted to climate change and the environmental crisis, ushering in a programme focused on this theme in autumn 2023. At the same time, the Akademie’s own institutional reality is also under scrutiny. Participation, cultural education and sustainable means of production are issues of central importance to the Akademie der Künste.
