EXHIBITION

displays illustrated letters and artist postcards from the Academy's art collection and archive, and from the Staeck collection. In its history division, the Academy presents never-before-seen or rare treasures from its archives, including letters and cards by George Grosz, Else Lasker-Schüler, postal art by Hans Scharoun, watercolour messages by Sarah Kirsch, and illustrated letters by Einar Schleef. The display also focuses on postcards and envelopes by prominent figures from the GDR Mail Art scene, including Robert Rehfeldt and Ruth Wolf-Rehfeldt, Joseph W. Huber and Karla Sachse. The Staeck collection primarily presents the numerous artist letters and postcards which Klaus Staeck received from artists like Joseph Beuys, Hanne Darboven, Emil Schumacher, and Jonathan Meese from the late 1960s onwards. Accompanying the exhibition, curated by Rosa von der Schulenburg, a catalogue and reprints of selected postcards will appear alongside a postcard designed by Klaus Staeck for the exhibition.

Mail Art - Projekt "Academy/Akademie"

This Mail Art project was initiated to accompany the exhibition ARTE POSTALE at Akademie der Künste, Berlin. More than 320 participants from 38 countries followed the invitation by Klaus Staeck and Lutz Wohlrab and took part in the project „Academy/Akademie”. Following the idea of Mail Art „No jury – no fee – no return – documentation to all participants“ all entries will be displayed, whether the participant is a professional artist or just interested in art. As customary these days the project is documented in the internet.
