12 December 2016
Performance with Koffi Kôkô (dance) and
Floros Floridis (saxophone, clarinet, electronics)
Premiere: Friday, 16 December, 8 pm
Further performance: Saturday, 17 December, 8 pm
The dancer and choreographer Koffi Kôkô and the musician and composer Floros Floridis show the performance “Think About…” at the Akademie der Künste, on Hanseatenweg. The premiere of this artistic dialogue between two protagonists from quite different cultural scenes takes place on Friday, 16 December 2016; the second performance is held the following evening.
Body, movement and gestures collide in “Think About…” with clarinet, saxophone and electronics. Koffi Kôkô was born in Benin; Floros Floridis comes from Greece. Two artists who have shaped their individual artistic language through resistance, as a reaction to the socio-political conditions of their times meet in “Think About…”. Initiation into the rituals of animistic voodoo was for Koffi Kôkô the strongest form of resistance to the Western colonial power, which primarily fought language and rituals. At the beginning of the 1970s, during the period of Greek military dictatorship, Floros Floridis juxtaposed the improvisations of free jazz against the one-sided folkloristically-underscored cultural policies of the junta.
On 13 December, in the context of a lecture demonstration, the artists provide insights into their art practice and the origination process of performance.
