Time to Listen – Deploying Art and Culture to Promote an Ecologically, Socially and Economically Sustainable Future

Rally, Saturday, 8 October 2022, 4–7 pm, Pariser Platz

In conjunction with a wide range of cultural institutions and other musicians, artists and creatives, the Akademie der Künste is calling for a rally to be held on Pariser Platz from 4 to 7 pm on 8 October 2022 in support of an ecologically, socially and economically sustainable future. The Academy’s society of artists believes that art and culture can play a key role in communicating knowledge and values that will initiate the kind of change needed to create a sustainable global community. The intention behind the rally is for the Akademie der Künste to take a clear stance and give the earth an audible presence to actively express the state it finds itself in, while urging people to pay attention: Time to Listen! In addition to performances and speeches, the rally will include sound actions by Ulrike Ruf, Nandita Kumar and Academy member Kirsten Reese.

The Akademie der Künste and its partners unanimously oppose the political aims of the Alternative for Germany (AfD), which is organising a demonstration on the same afternoon, starting at Platz der Republik.

The rally will conclude the conference “Time to Listen: Nachhaltigkeit in der zeitgenössischen Musik | Sustainability in Contemporary Music”. The Akademie der Künste, Impuls neue Musik and inm / field notes invite you to come to the Akademie building on Pariser Platz on 7 and 8 October 2022 to take part in an open space with contributions from experts and artists. The event will bring together artists, curators and activists from contemporary music and sustainability research. The aim of the transdisciplinary exchange is to rethink the way we relate to one another and to the environment and develop new visions for the future and options for using contemporary music as a means to take action.
