The Akademie der Künste is extending the run of the exhibition Käthe Kollwitz Prize 2022: Nan Goldin until 16 April 2023

Akademie der Künste, Hanseatenweg

Prompted by high levels of visitor interest, the Akademie der Künste is extending the run of the exhibition Käthe Kollwitz Prize 2022: Nan Goldin by four weeks until 16 April 2023. The show presents a survey of the work of the US American photographer and film-maker. On display are photographs, in both black-and-white and colour, taken over a period of five decades in Boston, New York, Berlin and Asia, along with recent large-format works such as landscapes and “grids”. The book about the Käthe Kollwitz Prize 2022 has also been out since the beginning of March; it contains, among other things, an interview with Nan Goldin conducted by Thora Siemsen as well as 25 images of works from the exhibition.

The Käthe Kollwitz Prize 2022 was presented to Nan Goldin in person at the Akademie der Künste on 3 March 2023. In awarding this prize, the Academy is honouring an artist who occupies a key position in contemporary photography internationally and whose pictures of her personal world and the LGBTQ* community have broken taboos and pushed boundaries. All the Beauty and the Bloodshed, Laura Poitras’s film about Nan Goldin as an artist and activist taking on the Sackler empire, was nominated for this year’s Oscars Oscars in the Best Documentary Feature Film category.

The prize and the exhibition and publication that accompany it are co-financed by Kreissparkasse Köln, sponsor of the Käthe Kollwitz Museum in Cologne. Part of EMOP Berlin – European Month of Photography emop-berlin.eu
