Rüdiger Carl
Rüdiger Carl (*1944 in Goldap, East Prussia) plays the clarinet and the accordion. The free jazz artist has maintained musical partnerships over many years, among others with Irène Schweizer, Hans Reichel, Sven-Åke Johansson and Oliver Augst. Carl is the founder of the COWWS quintet as well as the Canvas trio with Carlos Zingaro and Joëlle Léandre. Rüdiger Carl was a member of the Globe Unity Orchestra from 1973 to 1976. He founded the Forum Improvisierender Musiker (FIM – Forum of Improvising Musicians) in Frankfurt in 1993. In 2014, the Ab Goldap collection of biographical interviews was released, in which Carl discusses the artistic influence of his escape from East Prussia as a child as well as other relevant milestones.
