Show of works by Akademie der Künste Members in the Kunstsammlungen Chemnitz

Press Conference: Thursday 22 September, 11 am
Opening: Saturday 24 September, 5 pm
Exhibition: 25 September – 20 November 2016

In cooperation with the Akademie der Künste, the Kunstsammlungen Chemnitz are presenting a major show of works by Akademie members.
The exhibition, comprising 100 works by 67 artists in the Visual Arts Section, includes painting, photography, sculpture, film and video as well as conceptual art. The works on display are largely taken from the Akademie der Künste art collection. Last year, when both Akademie president Klaus Staeck and the Director of the Archive Wolfgang Trautwein ended their terms of office, many members donated works to the Akademie art collection. These are now being shown publicly for the first time in Chemnitz, supplemented by works from the Kunstsammlungen Chemnitz holdings and from public and private collections.

The exhibition is to be officially opened on Saturday 24 September at 5 pm by Ingrid Mössinger, General Director of the Kunstsammlungen Chemnitz, together with Akademie members Klaus Staeck, Wulf Herzogenrath, Manos Tsangaris and Christina Kubisch.

To accompany the exhibition, there is a comprehensive catalogue being published and an extensive programme of events. The event programme also showcases the work of the five other Sections at the Akademie. The Architecture Section is holding lectures on the art of construction and architecture. There is also a series of readings, with authors reading their own works and members of the Performing Arts Section presenting works by former members. There will also be concerts with compositions by members of the Music Section. In addition, the Chemnitz art house cinemas, the Weltecho and the Clubkino Siegmar, are showing films by members of the Film and Media Arts Section.
