The discussion is followed by an exhibition tour with Gerlinde Förster, Angela Lammert, and Marianne Pitzen.

The Munich artist Beate Passow, who specialises in installations, art photography and collage, is being awarded the GABRIELE MÜNTER PRIZE 2017. On the occasion of the award ceremony works by the prizewinner are shown in the Akademie der Künste, Hanseatenweg, together with individual works by 19 selected women artists:
Franca Bartholomäi, Tremezza von Brentano, Nezaket Ekici, Mane Hellenthal, Margareta Hesse, Verena Kyselka, Ute Lindner, Anja Luithle, Alice Musiol, Eva von Platen-Hallermund, Sibylle Prange, Vera Röhm, Christine Rusche, Heike Ruschmeyer, Corinna Schnitt, Uta Schotten, Rose Stach, Melanie Wiora, Uta Zaumseil
The exhibition also includes works by Gabriele Münter as well as works by VALIE EXPORT and Ulrike Rosenbach, both members of the Visual Arts Section of the Akademie der Künste, who were respectively awarded the GABRIELE MÜNTER PRIZE in 1997 and 2004.

The prize will be awarded to Beate Passow by Manuela Schwesig, the Minister of Family Affairs, Senior Citizens, Women and Youth on 14 March, 7 pm. The award ceremony is followed by the exhibition opening.

Beate Passow, born in Stadtoldendorf, Germany, lives in Munich. She studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich (Akademie der Bildenden Künste München) from 1969 to 1975. With this prize the jury recognizes a consistent artistic position that runs through Passow’s entire œuvre: “The artist in no way adheres to a fixed iconographic programme. Relying on diverse artistic techniques her view and her camera are employed to oppose questionable governing systems, excessive economization of the individual and increasing surveillance.”

The renowned GABRIELE MÜNTER PRIZE is the only art prize in Europe that is dedicated to women artists over 40. Endowed with € 20,000, the prize is being awarded for the seventh time in 2017. It is named after the German painter Gabriele Münter (1877 - 1962), one of the most important artists of classical modernism. The prize is awarded by the Federal Ministry of Family Affairs, Senior Citizens, Women and Youth in cooperation with the Federal Association of Artists (BBK), and the Women‘s Museum in Bonn (Frauenmuseum − Kunst, Kultur und Forschung e.V.), as well as GEDOK, the Association of Communities of the Artists and Art Patrons. The award ceremony and exhibition take place in cooperation with the Akademie der Künste, Berlin.

A catalogue is published for the exhibition. Events include an artist talk with Beate Passow (19 March), curator’s tours and workshops for school classes.
The second venue of the exhibition is the Frauenmuseum in Bonn (7 May - 9 July 2017).
