JUNGE AKADEMIE and VISIT again award fellowships on the topic of "Human-Machine". Applications now open
The JUNGE AKADEMIE of the Akademie der Künste, in partnership with VISIT, the artist-in-residence programme of the E.ON foundation, is awarding the second scholarship to support international projects that deal with the theme of "Human-Machine". The partnership is set up for three years, during which one scholarship will be awarded each year. The grant is endowed with 20,000 euros. The fellows selected by a joint jury will also have the opportunity to use the studios of the Akademie der Künste in Berlin's Hansaviertel. Artists of all disciplines can now apply for the 2021 funding round via a specially created online portal. Applications are possible until 1 April 2021.
The complex relationship between human and machine has been the subject of art and artistic practice since the beginning of the Industrial Age. In the face of digitalisation, the topic has taken on new meaning worldwide with artificial intelligence, its possibilities and dark sides. The “Human-Machine” programme funds international artists of all disciplines who foster new ideas of patterns, narrations and approaches to the world and who explore urgent aspects of today’s societies and the planet and transform their research into aesthetically compelling forms.
The jury members are: Inke Arns (director of Hartware, MedienKunstVerein Dortmund), Anna Fricke (curator of contemporary art at Museum Folkwang, Essen), Johannes Odenthal (Director of Programming of the Akademie der Künste, Berlin), Harald Welzer (sociologist and social psychologist, Honorary Professor for Transformation Design at Europa-Universität Flensburg and Director of the "Zukunftsfähigkeit. FuturZwei" foundation in Berlin) and Siegfried Zielinski (Professor for Media Theory, Archaeology and Variantology of the Media at the Berlin University of the Arts, member of the Visual Arts Section of the Akademie der Künste, Berlin).

The JUNGE AKADEMIE supports international artists from all art sections of the Akademie der Künste with residency and work grants in interdisciplinary artist-in-residence programmes. It gives artists the opportunity to network with members and partners through the Akademie der Künste, to exchange creative ideas in an interdisciplinary context and to develop and present artistic projects - in exhibitions, readings, performances, workshops or open studios.
VISIT is the E.ON Foundation's artist-in-residence programme and invites artists to realise projects that relate to the topic of energy and its social relevance. The E.ON Foundation launched its first projects in 2010. The aim of the programme is to initiate a reciprocal dialogue between the economy and the arts.
