All that poetry –
23rd poesiefestival berlin at the Akademie der Künste at Hanseatenweg

The 23rd staging of the poesiefestival berlin will take place from 17 to 23 June 2022 at the Akademie der Künste at Hanseatenweg. Under the motto All that poetry, the festival is covering the entire spectrum of contemporary international poetry.

In keeping with tradition, the festival opens with Weltklang, a multilingual sound experience of international poetry, featuring the Ukrainian author Halyna Kruk along with Raymond Antrobus (JAM/GBR), Agustín Fernández Mallo (ESP), Dorothea Grünzweig (DEU), Mihret Kebede (ETH), Kim Yideum (KOR), Wulf Kirsten (DEU), Aleš Šteger (SVN) and Julia Wong Kcomt (PER). The 2022 Berlin Poetry Lecture will be held by Michèle Métail (FRA).

Aras Ören’s long poems Was will Niyazi in der Naunynstraße, Der kurze Traum aus Kagithane and Die Fremde ist auch ein Haus – known as the Berliner Trilogie – are being adapted for the stage by Björn Kuhligk. They tell the story of the first generation of Turkish migrant workers and their lives in the 1970s in a Kreuzberg marked by poverty, decline and political upheaval. Svetlana Alexievich is presenting the Anthologie der Dichterinnen recently published in Belarus by the Pflaŭmbaŭm publishing house. Six participating women poets will read their texts and discuss with the publishers what the volume means for them and the Belarusian literary community.

Also on the programme is a new poetic mapping of the African continent: a rapper, an architect, a sociologist, poets and musicians, all belonging to the African diaspora around the world, will spend an evening talking about the global African city and the gravitational force it exerts on the arts, pop culture and the postcolonial order.

This year’s VERSschmuggel focuses on poetry from four of the successor states of former Yugoslavia: Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Montenegro and Serbia.

The first performance in the festival exhibition ‘AI – ANCESTORS’ will take place on 14 June. Visitors are invited to “open their senses for a gentler future”, says curator Rike Scheffler. The exhibition explores such themes as co-authorship with artificial intelligence, responds to visitors’ heartbeats and whispers them poems from the future

The poesiefestival berlin is a project of the Haus für Poesie in cooperation with the Akademie der Künste and is being sponsored by the Capital Cultural Fund.

Presented by ASK HELMUT, Deutschlandfunk Kultur, BÜCHERmagazin, EXBERLINER, KUNSTFORUM International, Literaturport, rbbKultur, taz and tip Berlin.
