Black. Still. Life. 

Christina Sharpe (Professor in Africana and Women’s, Gender, and Sexualities Studies, Tufts University, Boston USA)

Christina Sharpe will discuss four notions, partly loaded with a double meaning, which highlight the question of existence and non-existence as a Black person in the world from a historical as well as contemporary perspective:  wake, ship, hold, weather. In relation to slavery, colonialism and migration, she will focus on the symbolism of the slave ship. Black. Still. Life.works through multiple meanings of still and still life in order to think about Blackness.
