Andrew Cyrille

Andrew Cyrille (*1939 in NYC, United States) is part of the first generation of free jazz drummers and one of the most influential American free jazz musicians. From 1965, for example, he played with Cecil Taylor's group for ten years. Since the early 1980s, Cyrille has worked with Brötzmann in various contexts time and again. He has made countless records with all the greats of new jazz, including Anthony Braxton, Milford Graves, John Carter, Irène Schweizer, Geri Allen, Billy Bang and Carla Bley. His solo album, The Declaration of Musical Independence, was released on ECM in 2016.
