Christine Schlegel, b. 1950 in Cossen (Saxony) and raised in Dresden. After her apprenticeship as decorator, poster and font designer, she studied painting and graphic arts at the Hochschule für Bildende Künste. She received commissions for "Kunst-am-Bau" and grants as a freelance graphic artist. Contacts to members of the subculture led her to withdraw from official artists' association and to turn to new media. She also designed ceramics in Wilfriede Maaß' pottery workshop. In ciné film, like Super 8, she sought symbiosis with painting, and she also collaborated intensively with the dancer Fine Kwiatkowski. Schlegel moved to West Berlin in 1986. Today, she lives in Dresden.
