Sven-Åke Johansson

Sven-Åke Johansson (*1943 in Mariestad, Sweden), along with drummer Han Bennink, is one of the most stylistically influential drummers of the German and European free jazz era of the 1960s and 1970s. From the 1980s, he pursued an artistic path as a music performer that was as independent as possible from institutions and groupings, increasingly in the fields of visual arts and New Music. Among other things, his oeuvre includes over fifty record releases, a number of musical theatre pieces, radio plays, works of visual art and a lively touring schedule. Johansson has been living in Berlin since 1960 and has been active in various art scenes. In 2017, Blue for a moment by Antoine Prum, a documentary film about Sven-Åke Johansson, was released.
