Via Lewandowsky

Via Lewandowsky (born 1963 in Dresden) works with installations, exhibition-scenographies, performances, painting and drawing. From 1985 to 1989, he was a member of the Auto-Perforation Artists (Micha Brendel, else Gabriel, Rainer Görß, Via Lewandowsky), who undermined the official art establishment. With their "band" Die Strafe, they synchronised film performances with real and self-invented instruments. In 1989, he left East Germany shortly before the fall of the Berlin Wall. He has maintained an artistic friendship with Durs Grünbein – the last time they were to be seen together was in an exhibition at the Heidelberger Kunstverein (together with Natalie Czech).
