The Triadic Ballet

Dance Performance

We regret that all tickets have now been sold.

In 2014, the Akademie der Künste and the Bavarian State Ballet co-produced a new version of one of the 20th century’s most memorable dance events – Oscar Schlemmer’s “Triadic Ballet” choreographed by Gerhard Bohner in 1977 on behalf of the Akademie der Künste. Set to a new composition by Hans-Joachim Hespos, Bohner’s ingenious and timeless reconstruction of this legendary costume ballet from 1922 was a global success, internationally revitalizing Schlemmer’s major theatrical experiment.

The 2014 production with the young Bavarian State Ballet II ensemble under ballet director Ivan Liška and ballet mistress Colleen Scott – soloists for ten years in nearly all performances of Bohner’s “Triadic Ballet” worldwide – has been rapturously received by both audiences and the press. In 1977, Bohner worked with stage designer Ulrike Dietrich to meticulously reconstruct the costumes designed by Oscar Schlemmer. Now part of the Akademie der Künste’s Gerhard Bohner Archive, the costumes can again be admired in their full expressiveness and beauty in the ballet’s three modes: “cheerful burlesque”, “ceremonious and solemn”, and “mystical fantasy”.
