Efrat Gal-Ed “Niemandssprache. Itzik Manger – ein europäischer Dichter”

Reading and Talk

In her biography of Itzik Manger (1901–1969), just published in Suhrkamp’s Jüdischer Verlag, artist and writer Efrat Gal-Ed has achieved something quite remarkable. She not only introduces us to one of the great Yiddish poets, but portrays him above all as a European poet, and interweaves the story of his life with a vivid description of secular Yiddish culture in eastern Europe. Together with Hanns Zischler, Efrat Gal-Ed presents this impressive work whose textual design takes the Talmud as its model. Introduction: Michael Krüger.
