Uncertain States – DISKURSE Armin Nassehi: "Desintegration als Ziel. Ein anderer Blick aufs Migrantische"

Lecture

Armin Nassehi is one of the most prominent sociologists in Germany. The 1960 born son of a German and an Iranian questions the so-called 'traditional society'. In his speech he will focus on the chances that can result from the society’s "disintegration", triggered in part by both forced and voluntary migration.

Professor Dr. Armin Nassehi was born in Tübingen in 1960, and grew up in Munich, Landshut, Teheran and Gelsenkirchen. In 1998, he was appointed as a professor of sociology at the Ludwig Maximilian University Munich (LMU). He is also a full member of the board of the Human Science Center (HWZ) at the LMU, a member of the board of the Munich Center for Ethics, and since 2009 has been a member of the LMU Munich University Council and the board of University Representatives. In 2012, he was appointed as a member of the board of the Hanover Institute of Philosophic Research (fiph). His research primarily focuses on the sociology of culture, knowledge and politics. Aside from his work in the university context, Professor Nassehi is also active as a journalist, speaker and consultant. Since 2012 he has been the editor of the cultural journal Kursbuch.

DISKURSE, a series of lectures and discussions, addresses today's key issues. Europe is facing challenges such as xenophobia, Islamophobia and anti-Semitism. What are the causes of this new fundamentalism? How can the growth of right-wing populism and racism be curbed and overcome? How can immigration policies be improved? And what role does art have to play in coping with the crisis?

The 12 lectures by prominent representatives of migration studies, political science, sociology, philosophy, and art scholarship will be accompanied and commented on by the young team from Polis180, the grassroots think tank for foreign and European policy. The series will be available online at www.adk.de/uncertain-states.

In cooperation with the German Federal Agency for Civic Education (bpb) and Polis180. All dates of the series can be found here.
