As part of the digital conference and film series School of Resistance, the IIPM/Milo Rau are for the first time looking back on nearly 15 years of work between and across art and activism. The film series started with the documentary recordings of The General Assembly, which took place in Berlin in 2017. After the first general assembly of the first world parliament in history at the Schaubühne am Lehniner Platz, a controversial “march on the Reichstag” was staged, advocating “A democracy for everything and everyone”, which included members of the German parliament itself. Today more than ever, The General Assembly raises questions: Is the production of utopian images a possible template to imagine opposing political formations? Akademie member Georg Seeßlen, theater author and vice president of the Akademie der Künste Kathrin Röggla and Milo Rau discussed the intertwining of activism and art. Who uses images produced by artistic interventions and whom do they benefit?
