Under the Microscope 5 Works – 5 Cases

Talk

Where did US civil rights activist Paul Robeson’s African stool come from? How was the estate of Walter Benjamin rescued? How did a painting from the "Degenerate Art" campaign end up in the Akademie’s collections?

Experts from the Archives of the Akademie der Künste take a close look at five works from the archives. The examples show how complicated provenance research is in practice and how much knowledge it can yield.

With:
Werner Heegewaldt (director of the archives),
Peter Konopatsch (music archive),
Doris Kachel and Anna Schultz (curators) and
Erdmut Wizisla (director Walter Benjamin Archive)

Moderation: Maria Obenaus (German Lost Art Foundation)
