CONTINENT – In Search of Europe

Panel Discussion

“The term continent is derived from the Latin continēre, meaning to connect, to hold together. Is this continent a union of solidary individualists or just a loose association of nations? What happens if the idea of Europe fails? Nothing about the idea has changed other than its subject matter, which has changed enormously: because Europe is no longer recognisable. In 2015, when the idea for this exhibition was born, we could never have imagined what Europe would look like today, what dislocations and crises we would face. Our project is not – and never was – objective. It is dedicated to humanism, to peaceful cooperation. It is a declaration of love for Europe.” (OSTKREUZ photographers on their exhibition curated by Ingo Taubhorn)

A panel discussion with OSTKREUZ photographers and guests on 12 Nov is dedicated to the question of the possibilities and limits of photography as a medium of memory. The exhibition is supported by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF), the Senate Department for Culture and Europe and the Society of Friends of the Academy of Arts.
