From the Correspondence Between Hermann Borchardt and George Grosz

Book Presentation

The painter George Grosz was friends with the writer Hermann Borchardt. Both were forced from their homeland when the National Socialists came to power. They succeeded in fleeing to the USA – Grosz immediately, Borchardt only after detours and imprisonment in German concentration camps. The correspondence provides insights into exile and the political debates of the time. It is also testimony to a friendship that withstood the most adverse of conditions, as both were adept at countering the ordeals of exile with their sarcastic wit.
