Ein Perfektionist besonderer Art. Der Pianist Eduard Erdmann und seine Hamburger Meisterklasse

Symposium

A special event in Hamburg is dedicated solely to Eduard Erdmann, following symposia on the pianist in Seebüll, Wahlsdorf, Berlin and Riga. In Hamburg, Erdmann went beyond frequently concentrating on teaching; he led a master class in piano for eight years. At the symposium Erdmann's former students recall their teacher's understanding of music. Other themes address Erdmann's pianistic style, characteristics of his teachings, his Hamburg concerts and his years in Germany under the National Socialists. The head of the Music Archive at the Akademie der Künste introduces the new volume Eduard Erdmann in the Archive zur Musik des 20. und 21. Jahrhunderts series (Bockel Verlag, Neumünster, 2018).

At the conclusion of the event the Schirmer Quartett will perform quartets by Erdmann and Ernst Krenek.

In cooperation with the Eduard-Erdmann-Gesellschaft e.V. and the Institut für Historische Musikwissenschaft of the Universität Hamburg.
