Minimalism, abstract expressionism, and colour field painting form the artistic foundations for Frenchman Bernard Frize, who lives in Berlin and Paris. His medium and large-format paintings are created through a sensual and at the same time conceptual working process that is based on an artistically-defined system. The seemingly simple but compositionally complex structures of the vertical and horizontal strands of paint follow rules intrinsic to the picture. The painting process and style of his multi-layered paintings remain visible and thus become the subject of his pictorial worlds.
