Christa Sammler

The work of Wrocław-born Berlin sculptor Christa Sammler reflects her distinct understanding of historical connections, which maintains a constant influence on her artistic activities. For her, Greek antiquity was the standard and starting point for the development of European culture and art. The viewer experiences the classical harmony of moderate movement, body and garment, sensuality and awareness in works such as Girl with Apple (1964), the relief cycle Experience Music (Stadthalle Chemnitz, 1974) or her still lifes, which deal with forms of historical memory.
