Max Uhlig
In his paintings, drawings and etchings, the Dresden artist Max Uhlig creates human figures and landscapes from expressive lineatures: Superimposition, condensing and clearing is used to form the black and white or coloured object of the image. In summer, Uhlig works en plein air on landscapes, groups of bushes and trees – initially he painted in the Elbe floodplains near Dresden, on the islands of Usedom and Rügen, and now works in France. In winter he creates graphics in his studio: Heads and figures created from vibrating lines. Max Uhlig constantly works on the relationship between surface and space. “It is as if I put a spatial structure on the surface - the only difference is that I also add the relation of the body to the picture surface, to the rectangle.” (Max Uhlig, 2013/14)
